Sun Life To Move CT Office To Downtown Hartford’s Gold Building

September 7, 2021

Insurance company Sun Life is set to move its Connecticut office to one of Hartford's tallest skyscrapers.

Sun Life is leasing 47,000 square feet at the  One Financial Plaza office tower, also known as the Gold Building, in downtown Hartford. At full capacity, its new office is set to accommodate 450 employees.

Currently, Sun Life has about 300 employees based in Connecticut. Its workforce includes underwriting, actuarial, technology, operations, clinical, sales and product professionals in Sun Life's Stop-Loss & Health and Group Benefits businesses, as well as legal, human resources and finance employees.

Hartford is one of the strongest markets in the world for insurance and related technology professionals, and bringing our Connecticut team to Hartford is an important step in making us an even stronger home for top talent in the area, Dan Fishbein, president of Sun Life U.S., said in a statement. We look forward to developing a strong presence in and relationship with the city of Hartford.

Fishbein noted the company intends to design its new space in the Gold Building with advanced concepts for future work with its office-work dynamic shifting to a more flexible model. Those concepts are set to include features that support how employees choose to work, leading technology, and amenities such as complimentary parking, Fishbein said.

The 26-story Gold Building, one of the most visible buildings in Hartford's skyline, was constructed in 1974 and is co-owned by LAZ Investments LLC and Shelbourne Global Solutions. Other tenants located at the skyscraper include KPMG, Travelers, LAZ Parking, People's United Bank, Virtus Investments, Global Atlantic, Accenture, Conning and General Reinsurance.

Sun Life is slated to begin office design work for its new space in early 2022 and plans to take occupancy in September 2022.

For the Record

Andrew Filler of Avison Young represented the landlord in the deal. Jonathan Putnam of Cushman & Wakefield represented the tenant.
